At Summerfield Primary school we aim to equip children with life skills that will positively impact on their future. Our goal is to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical activities. Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at our school, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes. We want to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values to support their mental and physical well-being. Our children will have opportunities to compete in sport and other activities that build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Pupils at Summerfield Primary School participate in weekly high quality PE and sporting activities. Our PE programme incorporates a variety of sports to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses. We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities before, during and after school, in addition to sporting events, competitions and swimming. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also well-being for all pupils.
Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at Summerfield Primary School, not only through the sporting skills taught but also through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes. Within lessons, children are taught the key values of sport that they are then able to transfer into other aspects of their school life. The sports that are offered and delivered through PE lessons and in extracurricular activities has allowed opportunities for everyone to achieve and has encouraged some of our most inactive children to improve physical activity levels.
