Safeguarding at Our School

At Summerfield Primary School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is our top priority. We believe that every child has the right to feel safe and be protected from harm. Below is a summary of key safeguarding information for parents and carers.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means:

• Protecting children from maltreatment.
• Preventing impairment of their mental and physical health or development.

How We Keep Your Child Safe

• We have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who oversees all safeguarding matters.
• All staff receive annual training in safeguarding and child protection.
• We work closely with external agencies to ensure that children and families receive the help they need.
• Our school maintains strict recruitment procedures to ensure that all staff working with children are suitable and safe.

What Should Parents Know?

• If we have any concerns about your child’s welfare, we may contact you first, unless it may put the child at risk of harm.
• You can always talk to us if you have concerns about your child or any other child’s safety.
• We work with other agencies (such as social services) if necessary to ensure your child’s safety.

How You Can Help

• Be aware of the signs of abuse and neglect (e.g. unexplained injuries, changes in behaviour).
• Talk to your child about staying safe online.
• Keep us updated with emergency contact details and any changes in circumstances that may affect your child’s safety.
