Physical Education (PE)
Intent
At Summerfield we provide a high-quality Physical Education curriculum that develops the knowledge, skills, and confidence children need to lead active, healthy lives. Our intent is for children to enjoy and value physical activity, while understanding the positive impact it has on both their physical and mental wellbeing.
Through the Complete PE curriculum, we ensure children experience a broad range of activities that build physical competence, encourage creativity, and foster lifelong participation. We aim to nurture key personal qualities such as resilience, cooperation, fairness, and respect, alongside physical skills.
From EYFS through to Year 6, children are supported to develop movement fluency, control, and coordination. They are given opportunities to take on roles such as leader, coach, or official, helping them to build communication, decision-making, and organisational skills. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to promote progression; ensuring children apply learning in increasingly complex contexts, such as team games, outdoor challenges, and performance activities.
We believe every child should feel included, challenged, and inspired to succeed in PE. Opportunities to engage in clubs and competitions allow all pupils to experience achievement, teamwork, and leadership both within and beyond the classroom.
